MORE THAN 8,000 LATE-TERM ABORTIONS ANNUALLY

According to a 2015 CDC report, an estimated 1.3% of 638,169 total abortions yearly occur after 21 weeks gestation (almost 5 months into pregnancy). This amounts to over 8,000 late-term abortions annually. The total number is certainly higher, because this estimate only includes data from 47 states.

COLORADO IS HOME TO THE BOULDER ABORTION CLINIC

Colorado is among a small handful of places in the world where abortion up to birth for any reason is legal. There are only three abortion clinics in the US that perform abortions into the third trimester. The Boulder Abortion Clinic is one of them. In 2010, the clinic's abortionist confirmed that he has performed abortions over 8 months into pregnancy.

THE INITIATIVE

If passed, the initiative will bring Colorado in line with the 43 other states that have limits on how far along in pregnancy an abortion can be performed. This initiative will put in place a reasonable 22 week threshold that limits abortions past this 5-month mark to the rare case where a woman's life is at risk.

HOW DO WE GET THIS ON THE BALLOT?

We need to collect 124,632 signatures within a six month time limit to get this initiative on the 2020 Colorado ballot. Such a large task will require serious support from Colorado churches, many hundreds of volunteers and a large amount of fundraising. We have had a groundswell of support for this initiative, and hope that you will join us in our cause.

HOW YOUR CHURCH CAN HELP

Your church leadership can help in many ways ranging from a full endorsement and call to action to simply allowing our volunteers to collect signatures inside or outside your church or parish. Your church may also appoint one volunteer to be an ambassador for the initiative to gather signatures, answer questions and distribute lawn signs.

IS IT LEGAL TO ENDORSE THIS ISSUE FROM THE PULPIT?
